  • BIOGRAPHY

    Carolyn Carras is SVP & Chief Financial Officer of MBRE’s Accounting Services department where she oversees the company’s handling of third-party managed assets, including commercial office, healthcare, and government properties. She is also a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Carolyn’s duties also include monitoring acquisitions and dispositions of assets, as well as internal controls per the firm’s SOC compliance requirements. In her role as department leader, Carolyn is responsible for more than $2B in company assets that represent over 23 properties totaling 14M square feet in Chicago’s Central Business District. Additionally, she oversees the team as MBRE enhances existing systems, policies and procedures to function in the most efficient way possible. This includes moving to the procure-to-pay payables process.

    In her role as CFO, Carolyn is responsible for issuing monthly financial statements, overseeing treasury management and budgets, as well as providing cash flow projections and profitability analyses for the firm’s entire portfolio. As part of MBRE’s risk management efforts, Carolyn also ensures that proper coverage is in place for all contracts and that proposals comply with client standards.

    Carolyn has 30 year of experience in real estate accounting and previously worked at Vanderbilt Operating Properties as Vice President and Controller. At Vanderbilt, she was responsible for over $2B in company assets representing more than 80 properties totaling 10M of suburban office space in eight regions.

    Carolyn’s career highlights include implementing various accounting platforms for a startup company to streamline internal processes, saving a previous company nearly $1M in management fees by converting three retail projects from third-party to in-house accounting in a six-month timeframe, and developing monthly training seminars for property accountants covering industry standards and best practices.
