  • BIOGRAPHY

    As director of MBRE’s Human Resources department, Cory Schauer guides the company structure and culture to the benefit of all. Schauer has been with the company since 2007 and has steadily advanced with increasing amounts of responsibility during her tenure. In 2021, Schauer was promoted to Senior Vice President and became a member of the company’s Executive Committee. Schauer has a comprehensive knowledge of human resources and labor relations matters and deftly handles the different aspects of her role at MBRE, from payroll and compensation to benefits, employee relations and engagement, and recruitment and retention.

    Schauer’s work at MBRE has encompassed the complexities of all human resources needs in a changing corporate landscape. Balancing business goals, company culture, and the surrounding community, Schauer created anti-harassment policies and company training, initiated a program that gives employees paid time off to support volunteerism, and expanded onboarding and orientation for new employees. With Schauer as director, HR completed a comprehensive overhaul and renegotiation of employee health benefits, including the automatization of these functions, payroll, and other benefits. Schauer has also focused on compensating employees according to fair market value and better recognizing talented individuals, actions that emphasize her overall goal of employee engagement and retention.

    With degrees in Interdisciplinary Communication and Counseling Psychology, Schauer has had a people-focused career. Some career highlights before MBRE include working at full-service marketing communications company Energy BBDO Chicago from 1999 to 2001, focusing on incoming students as the assistant director of admissions and financial aid at Northwestern University from 2001 to 2006, and working as a counselor and court advocate at Connections for Abused Women and their Children while studying at DePaul from 2006 to 2007.

    During her 14-year tenure at MBRE, Schauer has left a mark on the company. Through her strong connection with employees and their needs, every department and building in MBRE’s portfolio has benefited.
