MB REAL ESTATE PROMOTES KATHERINE LULA TO SVP AND DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS, PROMOTES DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES CORY SCHAUER TO SVP

MB Real Estate (MBRE) has announced the promotions of both Katherine Lula and Cory Schauer to senior vice president. Lula, who served as MBRE’s risk manager and legal counsel from 2016 through August of 2021, has also been given the role of director of operations. Schauer has been with the company since 2007 and was appointed director of human resources in 2018. Both Lula and Schauer have also joined the MBRE Executive Committee.

“Katherine Lula has continually offered impeccable, clear-eyed, and whip-smart direction to the company,” said MBRE CEO Peter Ricker. “Her commercial real estate experience, legal expertise, and passion for people make her ideal for the role of director of operations.”

Lula received her law degree from the University of Iowa in 2012, and she came to MBRE with a background as a litigation attorney in the areas of real estate, personal injury, and insurance defense litigation. Lula began her career at MBRE in 2014 as a part of the property team at the MBRE-managed Inland Steel building. Starting in 2016, Lula worked in MBRE’s corporate office, leveraging her legal expertise for the asset management department. Lula eventually became MBRE’s risk manager and legal counsel and now, as director of operations, also serves as MBRE’s general counsel.

“For 14 years, Cory Schauer has worked hard to foster a fair and vibrant environment,” said Ricker. “As a CEO, having someone like Cory elevated to a position like senior vice president, with a voice on our Executive Committee, is reassuring to me and to the employees of MBRE.”

Starting at MBRE in 2007, Schauer quickly proved capable of handling the many facets of HR, from payroll and compensation to benefits, employee relations and engagement, and recruitment and retention. Under Schauer’s direction, the MBRE human resources department has achieved countless improvements, including a comprehensive overhaul and renegotiation of employee health benefits, along with the automatization of health benefits and payroll. Schauer has been a critical driving force behind MBRE's culture due to her comprehensive human resources knowledge, empathetic problem-solving skills, and genuine connection with MBRE’s employees.
